Kit markers are a Traser based device used to mark equipment and object so that it is easy to locate in the dark. They also make great keyrings.
What is a traser you ask? It is a tiny glass vial that is filled with mildly radioactive tritium gas. The emission from the gas (low energy electrons) causes a phosphor on the inside of the glass vial to glow and emit light, much like a fluoro tube does. The glass vial is encased inside an almost indestructible polycarbonate case which can be attached to your keyring or whatever.
The light output from these is not enough to illuminate objects around the glowring, but does allow you to see it up to 30 feet away, making them ideal as a marker tag for anything you need to find in the dark.
