These Osram LEDs are larger than the average surface mount LED, they are around 4mm cubed in size and are designed to be mounted as a side LED. But because the contacts wrap right around one side of the LED, they can also be mounted facing up. What's more, if you are careful you can unwrap the contacts from the body and use them as a through-hole LED!
These are Q2 bin rated, 90-355mcd at 20mA and have a 120 degree viewing angle. They are part number LOA676, datasheet is here
