This excellent clock displays the time using the binary number system, but unlike most binary clock kits, it has a face plate with the numbers of each power of two drilled into it, so telling the time is simple as you don't need to remember the LED positions and numbers.
Clock consists of three high quality black circuit boards which are connected via spacers and headers, and the digits are illuminated using 10mm diffuse LEDs in red, amber and green—you get to decide which colour goes where, as each set of LEDs comes with it's own value of current limiting resistors (the different colours have different values in order to balance digit brightness across the colours).
The kit is supplied in a simple plastic clamshell case that doubles as the clock's case, but we think they look better "bare". The PCB uses all through-hole components, there are no tiny SMD components to solder!
Note that there are no printed instructions included in the kit but the PCBs are clearly labelled, and there is a set of illustrative instructions available here. However, this is not a beginner's kit, you will need a reasonable understanding of electronic components to build this kit. For the more experienced builder, this is easy to build.
Completed kit measures 124 x 95 x 32mm (excluding case).
Also note that the kit is supplied with a button battery holder for the real-time clock, but if you choose to use the button battery feature you should ensure you read the information below before purchase.
This item uses button batteries
Restrictions apply to items marked with this label as it uses button/coin cell batteries:
- Button batteries can cause severe or fatal injuries within two hours if swallowed or inserted anywhere into the body.
- If you suspect that a button battery has been swallowed or inserted into any part of the body you must seek medical help immediately.
- This kit should be built without the button battery holder to eliminate the use of button batteries. It is entirely up to the builder's discretion as to whether to use the button battery function, but if you choose to, you must fit this kit into a child-resistant case to prevent removal of the button battery.
By agreeing to the terms and conditions during checkout, you are agreeing to comply to all requirements as listed above.
