1 year LED torch kit

This kit allows you to put together a simple LED light which is powered by 3 x AA batteries and will run continuously for around a year.

Developed by Russell Gurrin and featured in Renew magazine, it uses a simple oscillator to drive a superbright LED with a series of pulses, too rapid for the eye to see, so it looks like the LED is lit continuously. This drives the LED in the most efficient way possible, resulting in a low level light that runs continuously from 3 x AA rechargeable batteries for up to a year.

Ideal as a marker light, a low power nightlight or flashlight for the kids, keyhole finder light, or anywhere you need a small amount of light continuously.

Supplied with both narrow and wide angle superbright LEDs. We've improved on Russell's design by supplying a 3xAA battery holder, instead of the 4xAA holder in the original design, see photo. This makes assembly faster and easier, with fewer tools needed. A piece of double-sided foam tape is included to hold the circuit board in place.
